Cyclone Hockey team can’t complete weekend sweep of Indiana

Robert Hein

The Cyclones were focused and looking for the sweep in the second game of the series against the Hoosiers on Saturday.

Indiana came out aggressive to begin the game and took the 1-0 lead in the first period. Iowa State was unable to produce offensively in the first. Senior goalie Paul Karus saved 12 of 13 shots in the opening period.

The Cyclones bounced back in the second period, evening the score at 1-1 with a goal from junior forward Mark Huber. Karus stopped 11 of 11 shots in the second.

Heading into the third period with the momentum, Iowa State looked as though it was ready to complete the weekend sweep. But the Hoosiers had a different idea.

Again, unable to produce offensively, the Cyclones went scoreless in the third while Indiana added three goals to take the game 4-1. Iowa State will be back in action on Friday and Saturday against Oklahoma at 7:30 p.m.
