Malloy named Big 12 Rookie of the Week

Freshman outside hitter Andie Malloy started in each of the ISU volleyball team’s two match this past week, and on Monday she was honored for her performances, being named the Big 12 Rookie of the Week.

Malloy had a team-high 18 kills last Wednesday as the Cyclones beat No. 20 Kansas State at Hilton Coliseum. The freshman from Allen, Texas, led the team in kills again on Saturday with 13 as Iowa State swept Baylor. 

During the course of the the week, in the team’s two matches, Malloy averaged 4.43 kills per set with a .343 hitting percentage. She also contributed 2.57 digs per set in the two matches. 

Fellow freshman Mackenzie Bigbee earned the Rookie of the Week award earlier this season on Sept. 24.

This is the ninth weekly conference award for the Cyclones this season. In addition to Bigbee and now Malloy, libero Kristen Hahn has won the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week award seven times this season.

Iowa State will wrap up its road schedule on Wednesday against West Virginia at 5:30 p.m. The Cyclones will then return home on Saturday to conclude the regular season against No. 3 Texas at 6:30 p.m. at Hilton Coliseum.
