Football halftime report: Iowa State 16, TCU 10
October 6, 2012
FORT WORTH, Texas — Iowa State leads No. 16 TCU 16-10 at halftime at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
Quarterback Jared Barnett got his first start of the season for the Cyclones (3-1, 0-1 Big 12) in place of Steele Jantz, leading the team with a four-play, 75-yard opening drive that resulted in a 51-yard touchdown pass to Josh Lenz.
In Barnett’s first start last season, he led the Cyclones to a 41-7 upset of then-ranked Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas.
Barnett again set up another quick scoring drive, belting a pass to Lenz for a 74-yard score before the end of the first quarter.
Lenz notched three career-highs with those two catches: 74-yard touchdown catch is the longest of his career, 125 receiving yards is the most in a single game and two receiving touchdowns is the most in a single game.
TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin made his first start for the Horned Frogs (4-0, 1-0) after Casey Pachall’s suspension following his arrest for driving while intoxicated.
Boykin led the Horned Frogs down the field 62 yards for a touchdown pass late in the second quarter to cut the lead to three shortly before Lenz’s 75-yard catch.
Iowa State diminished its overall turnover margin to -2 after intercepting a pass from Boykin and recovering two fumbles in ISU territory. An interception by Barnett with one minute remaining, however, settled that margin to -3.
TCU will receive to begin the second half.
