Food drive and football
October 11, 2012
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be running a food drive at the ISU football game this Saturday, Oct. 13 to support the Food Bank of Iowa in Des Moines. This is the second such event that SAAC has run, last year they had a food drive at the ISU – Iowa basketball game.
SAAC will have volunteers working from 7 to 7:30 a.m. in the paved parking lots and tailgating area collecting food in shopping carts.
The group wil also have volunteers at the entry gates before the game, so the public can bring their donations to the door.
The volunteers will be wearing black Cyclone t-shirts and will have name tags. SAAC representatives said they expect to have about 60 volunteers on hand for the morning.
According to the food bank’s website, the items that are most needed right now are high protein foods like canned meats and peanut butter, canned soup, instant oatmeal, boxed meal kits like Hamburger Helper, 100% fruit juices and personal items like toilet paper and soap.
The Food Bank of Iowa is a private, not-for-profit charitable organization established in 1982. They operate in Des Moines and throughout Iowa in 55 counties via partner networks.
