The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Okla. has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Ames until 8 p.m. Wednesday. 

Scattered thunderstorms are expected during the day Wednesday and into the evening, according to the National Weather Service in Des Moines. The service said the storms may produce 60-mph winds and quater-sized hail.

The weather service said isolated thunderstorms may occur mainly east of Interstate 35 Thursday. Thunderstorms are also forecasted for Saturday, but the risk of severe weather is low, according to the weather service.
