The ISU volleyball team went 0-2 on Saturday at the Comcast Lady Vol Classic, dropping its matches with Florida State and Tennessee.
In a rematch from the 2011 Elite Eight, the No. 10 Cyclones (1-2) fell to No. 12 Florida State (3-0) in five sets Saturday morning, just as the team did last December in the NCAA tournament.
Trailing 20-17 in the fourth set against the Seminoles, the Cyclones went on a run to win 27-25, forcing a fifth set. Florida State began the fifth set on a 6-0 run however, and Iowa State could not fight back, losing the set 15-11 and its first match of the season.
Senior setter Alison Landwehr had 53 assists and junior libero Kristen Hahn contributed 20 digs in the match against Florida State. The team committed 28 errors in the match and went 60-of-174 in attacks.
Later in the evening, Iowa State fell to No. 15 Tennessee (2-1) in five sets in the Lady Vols’ home arena. The Cyclones again fell behind 5-1 early in the fifth set and went on to lose it 15-4.
Landwehr again led the Cyclones with 44 assists and senior middle blocker Jamie Straube contributed 13 kills. Iowa State committed 23 errors in its second match of the day.
The Cyclones won on Friday evening against Cincinnati for their first victory of the season. They will have the week off before taking on Illinois in two separate matches next weekend in Champaign, Ill.
