Cyclones swept at Baylor

The ISU softball team played a three-game series in Waco, Texas, this past weekend, where they were swept by Baylor. The Cyclones (14-36, 2-19 Big 12) were outscored 20-1 on the weekend.

Baylor (33-19, 10-13 Big 12) won the series opener 7-0 on Friday evening. Bears’ junior Courtney Repka pitched seven complete innings of shutout work, allowing only three hits and zero walks. BU freshman Kaitlyn Thumann finished the day 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs at the plate. ISU junior Erica Miller recorded two of the Cyclones’ three hits, going 2-for-3 on the day.

The Cyclones were shut out once again in Saturday’s game, as the Bears earned the 6-0 victory. Baylor received another strong pitching performance, this time from sophomore Liz Paul, who went seven innings and allowed only four hits. Thumann had another impressive day at the plate Saturday, going 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Iowa State finally managed to push a run across the plate in Sunday’s game, but still fell to the Bears by a score of 7-1. Repka and Paul combined to pitch seven innings, allowing one run on six hits and four walks. Anna Cole went 2-for-2 with an RBI on the day for the Cyclones.

The Cyclones move on to play Oklahoma in Ames next weekend.
