New Cy-Hawk Series Trophy unveiled
May 1, 2012
The new Cy-Hawk Series Trophy has been unveiled by the Iowa Corn Growers Association, the parent sponsor of the series.
The old trophy, which was the subject of much controversy, was repealed in place of one that was voted on by fans in March.
“I think it was a great process, now that we look back,” said Mindy Williamson, director of communications for the Iowa Corn Growers Association, to the Des Moines Register. “It’s the people’s trophy and the people’s game.”
In a landslide — 8,002 of the 10,282 votes cast — fans voted for the “mascot” concept, which depicts both Cy and Herky hoisting up a football.
The trophy will debut at this year’s Cy-Hawk football game, where Iowa will host Iowa State at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City on Sept. 8.
