Letter to the editor: Remember why you were elected
July 24, 2019
Recently, freshman congresswomen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley and Rashida Tlaib, dubbed ‘the squad’, have become the fresh face of the democratic party seemingly hell-bent on fighting the good fight against the execrable President Trump, as if they are the destined David to his Goliath. In reality they are the picturesque example of the immorality and hypocrisy embedded in leftist ideology.
Over the last several months “the squad” has made numerous claims against the President attesting to his so-called racist, xenophobic and homophobic behavior, without any evidence what-so-ever to substantiate their accusations. Instead they use aggressive language and pandering to cause outrage among their far left followers to spread false narratives. All while they undoubtedly engage in blatant anti-Semitism, slander and crude virtue signaling.
All four representatives have repeatedly defended and associated with known Sharia-law supporter, former women’s march co-founder, and anti-Semite, Linda Sarsour, who is a strong advocate for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS), a global Palestinian-led movement against Israel. Even the far-left magazine Forward, has made criticism of Ilhan Omar stating “Omar’s history of irresponsible comments around the issue inevitably turns every one of her initiatives on it into a debate about anti-Semitism on the left.”
In early July, Ocasio-Cortez tweeted out wildly false claims about U.S. Customs and Border Protection detention facilities after a congressional visit saying, “officers were keeping women in cells w/ no water & and told them to drink out of toilets.” and “CBP officers being so physically and sexually threatening”. It was later found out that Ocasio-Cortez was the one acting inappropriate during the congressional visit and that detainee restroom areas were equipped with a completely potable water fountain attached to the toilet.
At a panel during the Netroots Nation conference, Ayanna Pressley spoke out saying, “We don’t need black faces that don’t want to be a black voice. We don’t need Muslims that don’t want to be a Muslim voice. We don’t need queers that don’t want to be a queer voice.” This is an obviously racist and spiteful comment. To suggest that because you are of a certain skin color or because you belong to a certain group, that your opinion both doesn’t matter and isn’t wanted if it differs from what the radical leftists think, is to suggest that we as individuals do not matter. Otherwise, if you are black and disagree with Rep. Pressley, your opinion doesn’t matter, isn’t welcome and should be silenced. Interesting that the representative from the party that claims to be for inclusivity and equality, wants to shut down and exclude those who have different ideas and opinions.
Those are just a few examples of the actions these congresswomen have taken to push their own political agendas at the expense of others, all while pretending to be the moral compass that this country should follow. America is full of diversity and that includes diversity of ideas. Just because you disagree with another’s opinion or you believe it to be wrong, does not give you the right to shut it down or discourage it. Creating a collage of different opinions leads to understanding and acceptance. It is what made America what it is today, the most technologically and scientifically advanced, diverse and prosperous nation in the world – by far.
It is intentionally ignorant to think that the “evil” you believe to be fighting somehow excuses your own evil actions. “The squad” is a group of hateful women determined to tear down the President and others with whom they disagree using any and all powers they possess. They were elected to advocate for the betterment of their district and country, not to hold our politics hostage until we yield to their twisted version of right and wrong. I hope they can grow in their time as representatives and find a way to embrace those who are different and don’t share their ideology. Until then, I hope everyone can now see past their incendiary behavior and hypocrisy, and see the truth they’ve tried so hard to obscure.
