Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Ames early Wednesday morning

The National Weather Services in Des Moines has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Ames until 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.
A storm located near Boone, or 14 miles west of Ames at 1:36 a.m. is capable of producing damaging winds in excess of 60 mph.
As of 1:49 a.m. the storm was moving into Ames and moving east at 55 mph.
At 2:08 a.m. the front of the storm was 15 miles east of Ames and remains capable of producing winds in excess of 60 mph. It continues to move east at 55 mph.
The National Weather Services warns that thunderstorms can produce tornados with little to no warning. Residents should prepare for damaging winds and move to interior rooms away from windows.
Tornado warnings have been issues for parts of northern Story County, but have not included Ames at this point. The Daily will continue to monitor updates from the National Weather Service and provide them as soon as they become available.
