Road construction occurring in parts of Ames

The city of Ames is currently under construction at several different road sites including: Oakland Street, Ash Avenue, the 13th Street and Ridgewood Avenue intersection, as well as Lincoln Swing Street.
Construction on Lincoln Swing from South Dakota Avenue to Beedle Drive began May 7. According to a news release from the city of Ames, “Construction activities will be carried out in various phases to allow for local access to residences and businesses. These activities are expected to take several months, and vehicles will not be allowed into the construction zone. For safety reasons, please keep children and pets away from the area.”
Ash Avenue construction also started May 7. During the course of construction, Knapp Avenue to Mortenson Parkway will be worked on. The first phase will include new storm sewer installation, sanitary sewer rehabilitation and removal and replacement of the existing street. During the first phase, Ash Avenue will be completely closed to traffic from Knapp Street to approximately 500 feet south of the intersection with Country Club Boulevard.
The construction of the intersection of 13th Street and Ridgewood Avenue started May 14. During construction, the intersection will be closed to all traffic, and vehicles are to follow the marked detour. This is anticipated to take seven days to complete.
According to the news release, “The project includes replacing the manhole at the center of the intersection and replacing the sanitary sewer main to the north through the intersection. Closing the intersection will allow these repairs to be completed safely for workers and the traveling public.
“Westbound traffic on 13th Street should use Northwestern Avenue north to 24th Street, west on 24th Street to Stange Road, south on Stange Road to 13th Street. Eastbound traffic on 13th Street should use Stange Road north to 24th Street, east on 24th Street to Northwestern Avenue, south on Northwestern Avenue to 13th Street.”
Oakland Street construction also started May 14.
According to the news release, “Activities include sanitary and storm sewer reconstruction, driveway reconstruction and removal and replacement of the paved street. Work will be completed in phases and is expected to take several months.
The first phase will close Oakland Street at Hyland Avenue west to Campus Avenue.
“The intersection of Campus Avenue will be closed. Vehicles will not be allowed in the construction zone. There will be areas of no parking around the construction zone posted as the work proceeds. During these periods, vehicles should be moved to legal side street parking.”
