Cyclones produce several personal bests at Mt. SAC Relays

In what might have be its busiest weekend, the ISU track and field team was able to post personal best times throughout its multiple competitions.
Ethan Wilkins kicked off the long weekend for the Cyclones as competition for the men’s decathlon began.
Wilkins, a junior college transfer competing in his first Division I decathlon, earned 7,038 points. Wilkins also set personal bests in the 400-meter dash (49.23) and the long jump (23 feet, 2 inches).
On Thursday, seinor Rico Loy led the way for Iowa State by earning the Mt. San Antonio College 1,500-meter run title out of 121 competitors Thursday. Loy’s winning time was 3:43.18, a personal best for the native of Bad Wildbad, Germany.
Also competing in the 1,500-meter run were redshirt freshmen Alex Dillenbeck and Alec Bollman as well as graduate student Daniel Gruber.
Bollman ran 3:51.87 for Iowa State while Dillenbeck recorded a near personal best time of 3:49.38. Gruber finished with a time of 3:50.78.
Senior Ian Warner provided two personal-best performances for the Cyclones on Friday in the 100- and 200-meter dashes.
Warner ran to a fourth-place finish in the 100 with a time of 10.40. Warner followed that with a 10th-place finish in the 200-meter dash recording another personal best of 21.11.
Senior Akeem Holmes led the way for Iowa State in the field events in the triple jump with a leap of 50 feet, 3.25 inches.
The ISU track and field team will compete at the Drake Relays in Des Moines next weekend.
