Bombs target newspapers in Nigeria
April 26, 2012
At least eight people were killed and 26 injured in two bomb blasts in central and northern Nigeria Thursday, the Red Cross said.
The targets were two newspaper offices, the country’s president said.
Witnesses in the northern city of Kaduna said two men in a car drove to a market area where one newspaper office was and asked to be let in. When guards approached the car, the men said there was a bomb in the vehicle, which exploded.
The Red Cross said there were four killed in that bombing and 19 injured. Witnesses say one of the men who drove up in the vehicle was among those killed.
The other suspected bomber was arrested, said Nigerian Red Cross spokesman Nwakpa O. Nwakpa.
In the central city of Abuja, a suicide bomber was responsible for the deaths of at least four people, including himself, Nwakpa said. Seven others were injured.
Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan condemned the attacks on the newspaper offices, calling them “ignoble, misguided, horrendous and wicked.”
