‘Last Chance’ meet proves to be helpful for athletes

For a smaller event, the NCAA Qualifier meet had some big news coming out of Saturday with school records, former athletes and national qualifying times.

Some of the biggest news was ISU alumna Lisa Uhl, formerly known as Lisa Koll, competing in the women’s 3,000-meter run. Uhl went on to win the race with a time of 9:08.68.

Also on the women’s side of the meet, 800-meter runner Ejiro Okoro ran a 2:05.77, just under the automatic qualifying time for the NCAA Indoor Championships. Okoro will find out early next week if she made the cut.

On the men’s side, Edward Kemboi ran a 1:46.64, earning himself a stadium record as well as a qualifying time to go to indoor championships. Other runners will find out with Okoro later next week if they have made the list.

Runners will travel to Boise, Idaho, this weekend for the NCAA Indoor Championships. Only a select few have automatically qualified, but others will make the cut due to their close times to the automatic qualifying time.
