President Leath meets with greek community

The greek community hosted a formal meet-and-greet presentation for ISU President Steven Leath on Tuesday at the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity house.

Members from every greek house on campus filled Alpha Gamma Rho’s formal room. This event allowed members of the community to introduce themselves to Leath and introduce him to some of the projects and events they are doing to improve life on campus and around the world.

Joe Hora, president of the Interfraternity Council — which represents the 28 fraternities on the ISU campus — and senior in agricultural studies, welcomed Leath by telling him some of the core values represented by the greek community.

“We are better men through interaction with our chapters,” Hora said. “We strive for quality over quantity when choosing our new members, which is why we are so pleased to have so many people attending Greek Getaway because we are a select group and represent many leaders on campus.”

There were many other influential people in attendance, including faculty members such as Vice President of Student Affairs Tom Hill, as well as the presidents of most, if not all, of the fraternities and sororities on campus.

At the end of the ceremony, Leath was presented with a booklet containing all of the fraternities and sororities represented on campus. He then spent time shaking hands and speaking with everyone there who wished to meet him.

“I’m very glad to interact with the greek community at this level. I’m also flattered at this great turnout,” he said. “I’m glad to meet this many people in the greek community.”
