A concert from one of country music’s most acclaimed and respected artists is on his way to Ames.

Stephens Auditorium will host Vince Gill on Oct. 18. Starting at 7:30 p.m., Gill will perform songs from his vast discography that spans five decades. Tickets for the event go on sale on June 14 at noon and will start at $65 and go as high as $95.

Tickets for the event are available through the Iowa State Center ticket office, over the phone or on ticketmaster.com.

Gill’s 1990 single “When I Call Your Name,” garnered the first of many awards for Gill in the form of a Single of the Year Award from the Country Music Association. In addition to 17 more CMA awards, Gill also boasts a massive 21 Grammy Awards. Gill is a member of the Grand Ole Opry, an essential role to have for any big-name country artist. In addition to selling more than 26 million albums, Gill has also been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Landing an artist of this caliber has become commonplace for Stephens Auditorium, which has hosted the likes of the metal band Ghost, singer/songwriter/comedian Steve Martin and parody musician Weird Al Yankovic.

Gill, in addition to a wildly successful solo career, also has performed as part of the legendary rock group the Eagles. Gill, following the death of Eagles lead singer Glenn Frey in 2016, took over lead vocal responsibilities for touring, alongside Frey’s son, Deacon Frey.

As a solo artist, Gill has landed more than 40 singles on the U.S. Billboard charts, primarily on the Hot Country Songs chart. With a distinct tenor voice and a guitar style that is uniquely his, Gill has solidified himself as one of country’s best ambassadors and performers.

Gill’s voice is unique in the world of country music. Contrary to the gruff, cowboy-style vocals of artists like Johnny Cash and the pop-influenced vocals of Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton, Gill stands alone as an artist who balances sentimental, emotionally-driven songs with bonafide hits that embody country’s rebellious spirit.

Gill’s voice, higher-pitched than most of today’s popular country artists, has led him to be a desirable duet partner for legends of the industry. Willie Nelson and Eric Clapton have both enlisted the help of Gill due to his unique voice. Gill has made guest appearances on over 500 albums to date.

As of the announce of his show, Gill has released 19 studio albums. This should be plenty of material to provide the Stephens Auditorium audience with a performance to remember.
