Kathleen Edwards is a singer-songwriter from Ottawa, Canada. Edwards released her first album in 2003 and has been surprisingly under-looked in the music world. Kathleen Edwards may be most recognized for a popular song of hers that was released for the soundtrack to the film, “Elizabethtown”. The song, “Summerlong,” is what really jump-started Edwards’ career and got her some attention. “Back To Me” was also a popular single that gave Edwards noticeable credit.

“Voyageur” is a bit of a somber album that reflects Edwards’ recent divorce. The track, “Pink Champagne” is an extremely deep and heartfelt song that describes her “perfect mess” of a situation. This is Edwards’ fourth studio album, and she doesn’t hold back on putting herself out there. It seems as if the tracks are a collection of life lessons Edwards discovered about herself through her difficult divorce process, which obviously wasn’t easy. Although this album includes mostly slow ballads, “Empty Threat” and “Change the Sheets” have a lot of potential to be big hits.

Justin Vernon, Frontman of “Bon Iver” coproduced “Voyageur” out of his Wisconsin-based studio which always makes for a great album. You can also catch Norah Jones in a few tracks. Kathleen Edwards fears nothing after releasing this heartfelt album, it’s something about heartbreak that artists feed off of in order to create a masterpiece. I highly suggest “Voyageur” because it is personal and real. An album can’t get much better than that.
