Third time’s a charm for Luke Goettl.

The redshirt freshman upset No. 1 Kendric Maple in a 9-7 sudden-victory decision in his third match against his rival from Oklahoma in the ISU wrestling team’s 19-16 loss on Friday in Norman, Okla.

Michael Moreno also pulled off an upset, defeating No. 14 Matt Lester in a 3-2 decision to avenge a 9-5 loss in November in Ames.

The Cyclones (2-10, 0-5 Big 12) tied the dual at 12-12 after Mikey England’s 9-3 victory against Nolan McBryde at 174 pounds.

Other ISU victories included No. 4 Andrew Sorenson (3-1 decision vs. Bubby Graham) and No. 16 Matt Gibson (10-1 major decision vs. Kyle Colling).

The Cyclones return to action Sunday against No. 2 Oklahoma State at 2 p.m. in Stillwater, Okla.
