GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich is out with the first TV campaign commercial in his bid for the White House.

The television advertisement, called “Is the America we love a thing of the past? Newt says no,” will begin running statewide in Iowa Monday, four weeks ahead of the Iowa Caucuses and follows polls released over the weekend that showed Gingrich leading the Republican field in the early voting state.

The campaign confirms to CNN that it will spend $250,000 to run the spot state-wide in Iowa, which holds the first contest in the presidential caucus and primary calendar.

“Some people say the America we know and love is a thing of the past. I don’t believe that. Because working together, I know we can rebuild America,” Gingrich says in the ad. “We can revive our economy and create jobs, shrink government and the regulations that strangle our businesses, throw out the tax code and replace it with one that is simple and fair.”

Gingrich appears on camera for 15 seconds of the one-minute ad, including at the end when he says, “Yes, working together, we can and will rebuild the America we love.”

The ad stands in contrast to Mitt Romney’s first TV spot of his campaign, which ran in New Hampshire two weeks ago. The ad outraged Democrats by quoting then-presidential candidate Barack Obama out of context. The advertisement showed Obama campaigning in 2008 saying: “If we keep talking about the economy, we’re going to lose.”

Obama was quoting his then-opponent, Sen. John McCain. Romney’s campaign has strongly defended the ad, saying “now, the tables have turned – President Obama is doing exactly what candidate Obama criticized.” And they point out that they put the full quote from Obama in their press release that accompanied the ad.
