The ISU volleyball team advanced to the Sweet 16 on Saturday night with a 3-0 sweep of Miami in what will be the Cyclones’ final game of the season in Hilton Coliseum.

The No. 14 Cyclones (24-5, 13-3 Big 12) held the No. 25 Hurricanes (26-5, 16-4 ACC) to a season low hitting percentage of .087 on the night.

“This is the first match in a while that we looked like ourselves again. We played great defense, transition and served tough. We looked like ourselves again and I’m excited to see that going into the next weekend,” said ISU coach Christy Johnson-Lynch. “This is the best we’ve played in a long time.”

After pulling away late in a hotly contested first set with a 25-21 win, the Cyclones opened the second set with 12 consecutive points to put momentum squarely in Iowa State’s corner.

“We started to adjust to their roll shots and tips, where in the first game we weren’t as use to the pace and then in the second game we just got on a roll,” said ISU outside hitter Rachel Hockaday.

Middle blocker Jamie Straube led the Cyclones with 12 kills and three blocks while hitting at a .357 clip.

Outside hitter Carly Jenson followed with 11 kills while Victoria Hurtt added 10 kills on a career high .429 percent hitting night.

The Cyclones will face No. 13 Minnesota in the Sweet 16 on Friday in Minneapolis.
