Landwehr, 3 other Cyclones earn All-America honors
December 14, 2011
Junior setter Alison Landwehr garnered her first All-America honor Wednesday, selected to the American Volleyball Coaches Association First Team All-America.
Outside hitter Carly Jenson earned a spot on the All-America second team and both libero Kristen Hahn and middle blocker Jamie Straube were named honorable mentions. It is the first honor for Landwehr, Jenson and Hahn. Straube was an honorable mention a season ago.
Landwehr is the third Cyclone to ever receive first team All-America honors. She follows in the footsteps of Iowa State’s two first-teamers last year in Ashley Mass and Victoria Henson.
Landwehr led the Big 12 in assists per set with 11.46 and was ranked No. 15 in the nation. Landwehr is currently sixth in ISU school history in assists with 2,549. She also has the most assists in a match since 2008 with her 66 against Florida State in the Elite Eight.
Jenson led Iowa State’s attack this year with 3.86 kills per set and 4.04 kills per set in Big 12 play and ranked third in the conference. She also was in the top 10 in digs in the conference with 3.35 per set. Jenson was also ranked fifth with 4.32 points per set. The senior finishes her career at Iowa State ranked in the top 20 in school history in kills, kills per set, attack attempts and digs.
Hahn was in her first season at the position for the Cyclones. The sophomore libero led the Big 12 in digs per set with 5.44 per set. That mark is second in ISU history. Hahn earned honors as the Big 12 Libero of the Year as only a sophomore and was the third player in ISU history to record more than 600 digs in a season.
Straube was able to grab her second All-America honor after she led the Cyclones in hitting percentage for the second straight season. Her season hitting clip was .323. Straube was also second on the team in blocks with .98 per set. She is currently 13th on the Iowa State with her block numbers of 46 solo blocks and 268 block assists.
This marks the third straight season that the Cyclones have had a player on the first team All-America.
