Farmer’s market, concerts and games for all ages: this week in Ames

This weekend is packed with fun activities for all ages in Ames. Be on the lookout for some of these festivities!
Friday:
Ames on the Halfshell (5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.): Ames on the Half Shell is at the Durham Bandshell in Bandshell Park. The event features live music from various acts from area musicians. The event also offers a variety of food trucks and other family-friendly entertainment during their shows. Admission to the event is $5.
Mary Poppins Jr. (7:00 p.m.): The Story Theater Company will be putting on a play of “Mary Poppins Jr.” at the Ames City Auditorium Friday night. The play sees Mary Poppins taking on two young rapscallions that have exhausted all other nannies. The play features lessons that non only pertain to children, but to adults in the audience as well. Admission to the play is $12 for adults at the door and $8 for children, students and seniors.
Saturday:
Ames Main Street Farmers’ Market (8 p.m. – 12:30 p.m.): The farmers’ market is held on Main Street and features a variety of fresh produce from area farmers. The free event also features live music, children’s activities and crafts from various vendors.
North Grand Farmers’ Market (8 p.m. – 12:30 p.m.): This market occurs at the same time as Main Street’s farmers’ market and is held in the North Grand Mall in the parking lot to the north of J.C. Penny. The event is free to the public and also features a variety of crafts.
Sunday:
1860’s Schoolyard Games (2 p.m. – 4 p.m.): Held at the historic one-room schoolhouse, Hoggatt School, children and adults alike will have a chance to participate in the same recess games that children in the 1800’s played. The event is free to the public and occurs every Sunday from now until August 11.
Live at the Crib w/The Haunted Hallows (3 p.m. – 6 p.m.): Held at the Prairie Moon Winery, this concert will feature a musical performance from the folk/bluegrass act, The Haunted Hallows. The over-21 event will cost attendees $5 and included in admission is one glass of sangria. Pizza will be available along with a variety of wines. Attendees will also need to bring their own lawn chairs.
