Sooners escape with series split
October 1, 2011
Oklahoma escaped Saturday night’s game with a 3-2 overtime win over Iowa State, salvaging a series split at the Ames/ISU Ice Arena this weekend.
Iowa State blanked Oklahoma in Friday night’s contest, 1-0, behind 26 saves from freshman goalie Peter Alexander. David Kurbatsky scored the lone goal on a power play, firing a backhand wrister past Sooner goaltender Colin Fernandes.
The series finale turned to be just as dramatic and close as the first game.
After trading goals in the first period, Shawn Crawford gave Iowa State the edge with 12 minutes to go in the third. But Oklahoma got a crucial, game-tying goal with just 30 seconds remaining. In the extra frame, Oklahoma scored two minutes in, giving it the 3-2 win.
Iowa State will continue its homestand with a two-game set against the Dells Ducks next weekend.
