The rent-a-puppy fundraiser hosted by Sigma Lambda Gamma sorority will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Campanile south lawn.

The cost is $10 per half hour or $15 for groups of three. All proceeds will go to Sigma Lambda Gamma and the participating shelters, and most of the puppies are up for adoption.

Amanda Chung, senior in animal ecology and organizer of Rent-a-Puppy, said, “I came up with the idea by searching on the Internet because we were always doing the same thing like bake sales, and I finally found Rent-a-Puppy. This is our second year doing this.”

Students can get involved by going to their Facebook page and pre-registering for a time slot. This is encouraged because they have a limited selection of puppies this year. Students also can stop by the site during the day. A photo ID is required.

Students will be able to play with the puppy they rent for a given amount of time. The sorority will also have dog treats and toys to rent for the puppies to play with.

“Rent-a-Puppy is a great way to raise money for the animal shelters,” said Amanda Pearce, freshman in animal ecology. “Especially for me being an animal ecology major, it’s weird not to interact with animals all the time because I have a puppy at home. Being able to go out there and play with the puppies will help re-establish why I came here and why I chose animal ecology.”
