Big 12 Power Rankings — Week 7
October 14, 2011
1. Oklahoma (–) (5-0, 2-0) — A 55-17 pounding of Texas in the Red River Rivalry game at the Texas State Fair reinforced Oklahoma’s presence as the Alpha Male of the Big 12.
2. Oklahoma State (–) (5-0, 2-0) — The Cowboys led Kansas at halftime, 56-7, and ultimately defeated the lowly Jayhawks, 70-28, last Saturday. Brandon Weeden leads the league in passing yards with 1,880, while the Cowboy offense is second in the nation with 577.4 total yards per game.
3. Texas A&M (+2) (3-2, 1-1) — Texas A&M looked shaky in its 45-40 win over Texas Tech last Saturday. The Aggiest did score four rushing touchdowns — two from quarterback Ryan Tannehill — in that victory, though.
4. Kansas State (–) (5-0, 2-0) — A stingy defense and potent running attack have the Wildcats at 5-0 for the first time since 2000 when they finished 11-3 and won the Cotton Bowl.
5. Baylor (+1) (4-1, 1-1) — Baylor is third in the nation in total offense with 562.8 total yards per game. Quarterback Robert Griffin III has completed 80.3 percent of his passes through five games this season.
6. Texas (-3) (4-1, 1-1) — The Longhorns will try and slow down at least one of the Oklahoma offenses after being being clobbered by the Sooners 55-17 last week.
7. Texas Tech (–) (4-1, 1-1) — Running back Eric Stephens is tied for first for the most rushing touchdowns in the Big 12 with eight.
8. Missouri (+1) (2-3, 0-2) — The Tigers will be happy to have their homecoming this Saturday after a pair of close losses on the road to top 20 teams in Oklahoma and Kansas State.
9. Iowa State (-1) (3-2, 0-2) — Mistakes and miscues continued for Iowa State. The Cyclones did score points in the first quarter for the first time this season against Baylor, which it lost to, 49-26, last Saturday.
10. Kansas (–) (2-3, 0-2) — The cellar of the Big 12 is all too familiar for the Jayhawks, which trailed, 56-7, at halftime against Oklahoma State last Saturday.
