Big 12 Power Rankings – Week 6
October 7, 2011
1. Oklahoma (4-0, 1-0 Big 12) (–) — The Sooners drop to No. 3 in the AP poll despite their 62-6 rout of Ball State at home, but stay atop the Big 12 power rankings.
2. Oklahoma State (4-0, 1-0) (–) — The week off didn’t hurt Gundy and crew in the Big 12 Power Rankings. The Cowboys are currently second in the nation in passing yards, averaging 415.5 per game.
3. Texas (4-0, 1-0) (+2) — Texas is gaining momentum into its annual showdown with Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry. Case McCoy and David Ash are splitting time at quarterback.
4. Kansas State (4-0, 1-0) (+3) — The Wildcats’ 36-35 upset over Baylor last week propelled them in the Big 12 power rankings and into a No. 20 ranking in the AP poll.
5. Texas A&M (2-2, 0-1) (-1) — The Aggies gained 628 total yards, including 381 rushing yards, in their 42-38 loss to Arkansas last weekend in Dallas, which was the second-straight loss by four points or less.
6. Baylor (3-1, 0-1) (-3) — Robert Griffin III’s incompletions (20) have finally surpassed his passing touchdowns (18) on the season. However, Griffin is still the driving factor in the Bears’ 47.3 points per game, which is fourth-best in the nation.
7. Texas Tech (4-0, 1-0) (+2) — The Red Raiders emerged from a weak non-conference schedule with a 45-34 comeback victory against Kansas.
8. Iowa State (3-1, 0-1) (-2) — The mistakes finally proved to be costly for Iowa State in its 37-14 loss to visiting Texas. Going into that game, the Cyclones were vying to be 4-0 for the first time since 2000.
9. Missouri (2-2, 0-1) (-1) — The Tigers were only a casualty for their bye week, getting knocked down to No. 9 in the power rankings. Losses to Arizona State and Oklahoma have the Tigers in a hole early in the season.
10. Kansas (2-2, 0-1) (–) — The Jayhawks have fallen two-straight times after starting the season 2-0, but are 11th in the country in rushing yards with 236.0 per game.
