ISU Emerging Leaders Academy set to begin in January
October 10, 2011
The Emerging Leaders Academy, a program
designated to improve the leadership qualities of people in
university leadership positions as well as increase diversity in
those positions, is set to begin in January 2012.
The academy has graduated 42 people in earlier
editions in 2009 and 2010. The program aims to teach faculty to
encourage and coach students.
“An immensely talented group of on-campus and
outside experts will help the class develop leadership skills
during a series of workshops throughout the year,” said Elizabeth
Hoffman, ISU executive vice president and provost.
“Class members will explore such topics as
decision-making styles, organizational theory, leadership theory,
balancing family and professional roles, and the effects of gender
and diversity issues on work teams.”
ELA also aims to enhance the leadership
abilities of people who aspire to be in leadership positions in the
future. Faculties have to be nominated by their departments in
order to be a part of the program.
“Participants in the Emerging Leader’s Academy
explore their own personal values and walk away being able to
articulate a strong vision, mission and purpose,” said John Taylor,
director of ELA and ISU equity and diversity coordinator.
