Iowa State Daily wins print, online Pacemaker awards

ORLANDO — The Iowa State Daily was awarded the Associated Collegiate Press’ Pacemaker award for its print and online products Saturday during the National College Media Convention.
The Newspaper Pacemaker is judged based on the following: coverage and content, quality of writing and reporting, leadership on the opinion page, evidence of in-depth reporting, design, photography, art and graphics. The contest is based on papers from the 2010-2011 academic year.
The Online Pacemaker is judged based on design, ease of navigation, writing and editing, graphics and interactivity. Judging is based on the website as it appeared in March and April.
This is the Daily’s first Pacemaker for the newspaper and third for online. The previous Pacemakers for online came in 2009 and 2006.
The Iowa State Daily’s advertising department received an honorable mention for ad campaign. Ethos Magazine also received a Pacemaker in the magazine category.
The Daily also placed in three categories during ACP’s Best of Show competition. The Best of Shows are only open to convention attendees. The Daily placed fifth for four-year daily broadsheet and fourth large school online. It also received a second place award for four-year special section.
