October 23, 2011
The Iowa Board of Regents has proposed tuition and fees for the 2012-2013 school year.
ISU undergraduates are facing a 3.75 percent increase in base tuition for Iowa residents, which is just more than the Higher Education Price Index median set at 3.4 percent. Nonresident base tuition is set to increase 2.63 percent.
The University of Northern Iowa has proposed a 3.75 percent increase for both resident and nonresident students, and the University of Iowa has proposed a 3.75 percent tuition increase for resident students and a 4.75 percent increase for nonresident students.
ISU has proposed a zero percent increase in mandatory fees, which lowers the total increase in tuition and fees to 3.21 percent.
Graduate students at Iowa State are looking at similar numbers to the undergraduates.
According to the proposal, undergraduate tuition revenues make up 82 percent of total tuition revenues.
At its meeting at the University of Northern Iowa on Thursday, the board also will be discussing the approval of an employment contract with Steven Leath, who will take over for President Gregory Geoffroy in February.
