The Ames Fire Department was called to the Barilla Factory on East Lincoln Way Tuesdsay afternoon.

Mike Biegger, plant manager, said there was no real fire. He said there was some smoldering of product and everything was quickly under control. 

Biegger said no one was hurt. 

He said the cause of the fire was probably a mechanical failure caused by a piece of equipment that got too hot. 

Biegger said all of the systems are working as they should, and they were just taking precautionary measures.
