Digital Media: Sales Manager

The Digital Media Sales Manager will sell digital advertising and oversee account executives charged with growing digital revenue at the Iowa State Daily. The sales manager will think both short and long term to improve the Daily’s digital presence and ensure that products are beneficial to its clients.
Knowledge:
- Clear understanding of digital ad operations and ad serving software
- Ability to work with web analytics and content management software
- In-depth knowledge of the Internet and developing trends of user behavior
- Strong insight into where future opportunities will arise
- Understands technology and how it will be used by communities to deliver new value
- The desire and understanding that ongoing research/education drives what the Digital Media Department represents at the Daily
Experience:
- A strong knowledge of media advertising, especially digital media
- Ability to regularly meet and/or exceed goals, especially under tight deadlines
- Management experience is preferred, but not required
- Knowledge/understanding of the design and proofing workflow
- Working in a strong, team-driven environment
Responsibilities:
- Contributes to the growth of direct business and enhances the Iowa State Daily’s digital presence to ensure that the digital media sales team meets and/or exceeds budgeted revenue expectations for digital products
- Develops strategies, programs and pricing structures/packages in collaboration with the Director of Digital Media and the Digital Media Adviser to grow the Daily’s market share from its customer base by selling across all product lines
- Works within a territory of clients in Ames to develop an ‘A, B and C List’ to help organize and plan digital advertising packages and contracts
- Motivates and manages account executives through the introduction, training and implementation of new digital products
- Analyzes sales performance of staff to identify where product enhancements are needed and how they will be planned and implemented
- Works with account executives in needs assessment and idea generation for increased business from the Daily’s customer base
- Oversees online advertising operations by regularly auditing trafficking, delivery and client satisfaction through the assistance of the Director of Digital Media and Digital Media Sales Coordinator
- Continually monitors competitive media and identifies opportunities (singular and ongoing) to increase market share.
- Regularly communicate with the student retail sales manager to keep informed of print projects and new opportunities with clients — information about clients should flow between both sales teams to ensure the best outcome for the Daily and its clients
- Other duties as appointed by the Director of Digital Media or General Manager
Manages: The Digital Media Sales Manager oversees a team of digital media account executives.
Reports to: The Digital Media Sales Manager reports directly to the Director of Digital Media and the General Manager of the Daily.
