Update (1:10 p.m. Aug. 1): Police have two possible leads in last week’s car fires.

A car was stolen from Coconino Place on Mortensen Rd, but it was located on South Dakota Ave shortly after.

The two leads, however, have not yielded enough evidence to warrant a charge, according to Ames Police Sgt. Rory Echer. Echer said Ames Police will know more about the occurences later this week.

The Iowa State Daily will post updates as they become available.

Wednesday at 4:45 a.m., police responded to a car fire at 420 Welch Avenue.

Two more cars with interior fire damage were reported at 8:07 a.m. Wednesday at 532 Hayward Avenue.

Upon searching the area, police found five more vehicles with minor fire damage to the interiors. The additional locations were 438, 504 and 507 Welch Avenue and 2323 Knapp St.

Anyone with any information related to these fires should contact the Ames Police Department at (515) 293-5133.
