Update (8:37 a.m. Monday, June 27):

The National Weather Service in Des Moines has canceled the flash flood watch for Ames.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for much of central Iowa, including Story County, until Monday morning.

According to the alert a warm front will lift into southern Iowa this evening and will bring thunderstorms to the area with it. The system is capable of producing rainfall of 1-3 inches. Recent rainfall has left the ground saturated and the alert states that it “will not take much rainfall to produce significant flash flooding.”

The NWS’s forecast for Ames calls for 0.5-0.75 inches of rain.

The Iowa State Daily will continue to monitor the situation and post any updates as they become available.
