Frog Guts are drinks that are exclusively served at the Lost and Found Lounge above Cy’s Roost.

Whether you’d rather go out in Campustown or on Main Street, the Ames bars are sure to have something you’ll like. At each bar, some drinks sell more than others. We talked to a few of Ames’ bars to find out what drinks you order the most.

Campustown

Es Tas

Even though Es Tas serves both mixed drinks and cheap wells, it is really more of a shot bar. Some of their popular shots include the O Bomb, Eckto Cooler and Keno Bomb. The O Bomb is made with mostly Bacardi O rum, while the Eckto Cooler has vodka in it. The Keno Bomb, a special shot at Es Tas, is made with Southern Comfort, Watermelon Pucker and Red Bull.

Sips

With a bar on one side and a dance floor on the other, Sips has a different vibe than some of the other bars on Welch. The two most popular drinks at Sips are both mixed drinks: the Kryptonite and the Crown and Glory. Sips makes the Kryptonite with vodka, rum, triple sec, tequila, a splash of melon liquor and a splash of 7Up. The Crown and Glory is a simpler drink, consisting of one part Crown Royal, one part watermelon schnapps and Red Bull.

Paddy’s Irish Pub

Several of Paddy’s most popular drinks were created by past managers and bartenders making it unique. One of its specialties is the Ames Ice Tea, but the bar also sells a many other mixed drinks including the Big Easy and the Dragon Fly. A Big Easy is a combination of vodka, raspberry schnapps, lemonade and cranberry juice, while the Dragon Fly is a mix of x-rated liquor, raspberry liquor, Bacardi O rum and Red Bull.

Outlaws

Outlaws bar is known for two things: its large selection of whiskey and for serving drinks in big boots. Big boots are big plastic boots that guests can order mixed drinks or beer in. Think back to “Eurotrip” and “Das Boot.” Each boot holds 64 ounces of liquid.

Mickey’s Irish Pub

Mickey’s offers so many specialty drinks, it can be hard to choose which one to order. One of the top selling drinks is the Asian Tang which includes citrus and orange vodka, orange juice, pineapple juice, lemonade, sour, Sprite and grenadine. A popular shot at Mickey’s is the Grape Tootsie Pop. It’s a very popular house recipe that includes grape pucker, raspberry schnapps, Kahlua and a splash of orange juice.

Cy’s Roost

At Cy’s Roost, the top selling drinks really depend on the night you’re out. On Thursday, the bar has a birthday special for pitchers of beer, so Thursdays are a popular night for beer sales. On other nights, some of the popular mixed drinks are vodka and cranberry juice, vodka Sprite and rum and Coke. At Cy’s Roost, the top selling shots are most likely SoCo Limes or tequila shots.

Lost and Found Lounge

Above Cy’s Roost on Welch Avenue, you’ll find Lost and Found Lounge. At this bar, mixed drinks and shots are more popular than beer. Two of their most popular mixed drinks are the Noble — made with Bacardi O rum, orange juice, Red Bull and Bacardi 151 rum — and the Electric Lemonade. The most popular shot at Lost and Found is probably the Frog Guts. This shot, which is supposed to look like frog’s guts, is made of melon schnapps, vodka, bar sour, Baileys Irish Cream and grenadine.

Main Street

London Underground

Beer is one of London Underground’s specialties, as the bar has a wide variety of imported beers. Of their beers, the Kostritzer is probably one of the most popular. This German “black beer” is on tap at London Underground and even though it’s a darker beer, it tastes lighter than it looks.

This bar also specializes in martinis. One of those martinis is the Chocolate Diamond, which many people tend to order. This drink is made with chocolate vodka, vanilla vodka and Crème de Cacao.

Corner Pocket

Beer is probably more popular at Corner Pocket, but Captain Morgan and coke, vodka and Red Bull and vodka tonics are also popular among guests.

DG’s Tap House

Like its name states, DG’s Tap House specializes in beers. The bar has more than 50 beers on tap. Even though there is variety in what they have, they probably sell their Olde Main beers the most.

Sportman Lounge

At Sportman Lounge, one of the most popular drinks is the Bull Shot, which is similar to a Bloody Mary. The Apple Pie Shot is also a popular choice.
