Camp Adventure: Making memories that last a lifetime

Kendra Alley

Last summer I climbed to the very top of Mt. Fuji, went whitewater rafting, jumped off of waterfalls, shopped in Harajuku and went hiking in the Japanese Alps. Japan is one of the most amazing places I have ever traveled to; the culture is interesting, the people are kind and genuine and there are so many different places that are exciting to visit.

I was fortunate enough to participate as a camp counselor in a program called Camp Adventure, which sent me to Zama, Japan, for three months. As a camp counselor I worked on a military base with children and had the weekends to travel.

Camp Adventure is a service learning experience that students can participate in to gain college credit by working on military bases in the youth service programs in the U.S. and abroad. The program offers summer internships and fall and spring internships.

This program is full of excitement – every step of the process is a great time, from training to finally working with the children. Counselors learn skits, songs and ways to create an unforgettable time abroad.

Recruitment begins in the fall and development training for the Camp Adventure counselors begins in the spring. This program is a great opportunity for students to travel and make a difference.

Camp Adventure is an amazing program that will leave students with great memories and experiences.
