Ames snow ordinance back in effect at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday
February 1, 2011
The second wave of snow headed to Ames promoted the city of Ames to reactivate the snow ordinance at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1.
Winter weather headed to Ames for this afternoon into the evening is expected to bring additional snow, high winds and cold temperatures.
The city of Ames snow ordinances go into effect when two inches of snow fall on major arterial streets.
Snow routes are marked by red and white, or red, white and blue signs, and vehicles parked on snow routes may be ticketed and towed. All vehicles should be moved to off-street parking or to streets that are not designated snow routes, according to the city of Ames.
The city said it is important to remember the snow ordinance remains in effect until the streets are completely plowed from curb to curb, and it has stopped snowing.
To assist in the plowing efforts, all Ames residents are asked to remove parked vehicles from residential streets. However, only those on snow routes are required to move them.
The latest updates on the weather will be available at www.iowastatedaily.net.
