Cyclones fall to Colorado, drop to 1-7 in Big 12
February 1, 2011
Yet another slow start doomed Iowa State on the road, this time falling to Colorado 95-69 and running the team’s current losing streak to five games.
Down 20-5 just six minutes into the game and allowing another 17-0 run within the first half were too much for the Cyclones (14-9, 1-7) to overcome, as the Buffaloes (15-8, 4-4) had the second highest scoring night of any Cyclone opponent this season.
Colorado had five players score into double-digits and were led by sophomore Alec Burks who had 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting.
The Cyclones played in the high-altitude location with a thin bench, damaged by freshman forward Calvin Godfrey’s suspension and struggled to keep up on the defensive end, allowing the home team to shoot 50 percent on 66 shots for the night.
Scott Christopherson led Iowa State with 24 points, and senior guard Diante Garrett was 5-of-8 from three-point range on the night.
Weather conditions will delay the Cyclones’ return home; the squad hopes to fly into Des Moines on Wednesday night. On the team’s last road trip, to Stillwater, Okla., weather kept the team away from home for a six-day stretch.
The Cyclones’ next game is against Kansas State on Saturday at Hilton Coliseum. Start time is 12:45 p.m.
