The ISU men’s basketball team have added two faces to the roster from within the Cyclone student-athlete family tree.

Iowa State football players Austin McBeth and Andrew Mitchell will walk-on to the team, coach Fred Hoiberg announced Monday.

The two will join the roster for the remainder of the season, supplementing a thin Cyclone roster on the bench.

McBeth was a reserve quarterback for coach Paul Rhoads’ squad, and is a sophomore from Wayland. Leading his high school in scoring twice, McBeth is listed at 6-feet tall and was a two-time all-conference player.

Mitchell played one season of basketball at Iowa Central Community College before coming to play football at Iowa State. The redshirt senior is listed as a tight end, and is already one of the heaviest players on the basketball roster, listed at 6-foot-2 and 243 pounds.

Iowa State’s final non-conference game is Monday. The team’s first Big 12 game is on the road against Nebraska on Saturday.

Neither player is expected to see much playing time, but are expected to suit up for Monday’s game.

Mitchell saw football action as a special teams player. McBeth has yet to see game time for the Cyclones.
