It all came down to this, and Iowa State’s season came to a close after a 14-0 loss to Missouri on Saturday night at Jack Trice Stadium.

The Cyclones fall to 5-7 (3-5 Big 12) on senior night, coming up short of the six wins required for bowl eligibility, while Missouri is now 9-2 and 5-2 in the Big 12.

Iowa State was shut out at home for the first time since Nov. 8, 2003, a 45-0 loss to Kansas State. It was Missouri’s first shutout on the road since 2004.

Iowa State was without starting quarterback Austen Arnaud, whose season was ended on Nov. 13 against Colorado. Quarterback Jerome Tiller filled in for the injured Arnaud, and went 13-of-31 for 155 yards passing and also ran the ball 18 times for 54 yards.

Missouri’s first touchdown came with 1:40 left in the first quarter, when Michael Egnew scored on an 11-yard pass from quarterback Blaine Gabbert. It would take until the 14:09 mark of the fourth quarter before the next Tiger score, a 1-yard run by De’vion Moore.

The ISU offense struggled throughout the game, unable to convert on either of its red zone opportunities and only coming through on nine of its 19 third-down attempts. ISU kicker Grant Mahoney was also 0-for-2 on field goal attempts.

The Cyclones’ offense was able to rack up 332 yards in the game despite not coming up with any points.

Missouri’s offense scored touchdowns on both its trips to the red zone. The Tigers had 306 total yards.

Leading the way for the ISU offense was running back Alexander Robinson, who had 98 yards on 25 carries. Receiver Jake Williams was Tiller’s top target, grabbing six passes for 102 yards.

The ISU defense held stout for much of the night, giving up only one score in either half. Iowa State forced eight Missouri punts, only allowing the Tigers to convert six of their 16 third-down tries.

Jake Knott led the way for the Cyclones with 11 tackles.

With such a high number of bowl bids available, there is the possibility of some five-win FBS teams being chosen for berths. Last season, Iowa State played in the Insight Bowl against Minnesota after finishing the regular season 6-6.
