Schultz wins secretary of state election
November 2, 2010
Matt Schultz, Republican candidate for Iowa Secretary of State, was winning the secretary of state race with 50 percent of the vote against Democrat incumbent Michael Mauro with 47 percent of votes.
Schultz graduated with a law degree from Creighton University and is currently an attorney for Schultz and Watson law firm. He earned his associates degree from Brigham Young University in Idaho.
Schutz plans to instigate a number of changes in the voting process, including requiring voters to show government issued IDs such as a drivers license before they are allowed to vote. He also is working to change the current laws regarding same-day voter registration. Under Schultz, same-day votes would become provisional ballots to prevent further fraud in the voting system.
He also aims to create more business friendly legislature and give small business more power and protection. E-verification will also be used to make sure legal citizens are getting the jobs they deserve. Streamlining corporate filing, using PDF files instead of paper, and instigating electronic payment of corporate funds are all part of what Schultz hopes to achieve.
