City council to discuss Intermodal Facility
September 13, 2010
The Ames City Council will discuss the upcoming Octagon Center for the Arts Festival and will consider the paving of a portion of the Grand Avenue extension Tuesday night.
The council will consider an approval of a federal grant for the construction of the Intermodal Facility. Approval of the grant for the facility would present a conflict with the city’s proposed timeline for the project. Approval of the grant will allow the city to continue with the development of the Intermodal Facility at an advanced pace.
The council will consider filing an appeal on several elements of an Iowa Department of Natural Resources permit for the city water pollution control facility due to the high costs of implementing the proposed items of the permit with a relatively small environmental benefit.
Implementation of the permit could cost citizens in Ames tens of millions of dollars via a related rates increase.
