GSB to be updated on Campustown renovation research

LANE4 Property Group and Cathy Brown, program manager of facilities planning and management, will be speaking at the Government of the Student Body meeting Wednesday. They will be giving an update on the Campustown renovation project that the group has been researching.

The ISU Baseball Club contacted the GSB Senate and is asking for them to help bring their baseball field back to safe playing conditions.

Since the athletic department does not have a baseball team anymore it is not required to maintain the fields. The field has become rugged and needs to be fixed up, according to the club.

The baseball club is hoping to receive $9198.62 from the senate. They would use this money to buy additional Turface. They will be in need of two different kinds of Turface: the Turface MVP and the Turface Mound Master.

The Turface MVP would make the field smoother and more cushioned. It would give better traction and would be able to absorb more moisture for when it is wet out. They are in need of 1,165 bags weighing 50 pounds that would run $14.25 each for a total of $8913.62.

The other Turface they will need is the Mound Master Turface that would help keep the pitcher’s mound and batter’s box more in tact. They need 20 bags weighing 50 pounds, which run $7.65 each for a total of $285.

Iowa State has the chance to have Paul Farmer visit the campus. He is a world renowned doctor and a Pulitzer Prize winning author. Farmer is planning to have lectures across the United States to raise money for the operation of free clinics in Haiti. The committee on lectures is requesting $500 from the events accounts to go towards this visit.

Two students on campus are hoping to attend the Public Relations Student Society of America Convention in Washington D.C. This group works to improve students knowledge. The students are hoping to attend sometime in October and gain insight on this chapter.

The groups is asking for $840, which would be allocated toward airfare, registration and any other minor expenses.
