Primaries: George Eichhorn
June 1, 2010
Election laws: If elected, Eichhorn said he will set up a systemic review of election laws.
Eichhorn said a growing number of elections are decided in litigation because of close elections.
Voter Registration: Eichhorn said he is going to check into some different things dealing with voter registration.
The goals are to assure fair and honest elections, reinstitute the task force for regulatory reform, and eliminate wasteful spending
“Iowa is in the minority of minorities when it comes to provisional ballots,” Eichhorn said — provisional ballots are given when a person does not have an acceptable proof of identity when voting is allowed.
Satellite Voting: Eichhorn said the satellite voting stations need the same kinds of safeguards as election day booths — satellite voting is absentee voting that occurs outside of the auditor’s office before election day.
Background: Eichhorn served in the Iowa Legislature as chairman of the Administrative Rules Review Committee. He said his experience would allow him to, “hit the ground running.”
Eichhorn said he will work on getting rid of the “red tape, and free up businesses.” By doing this, he said it will allow them to be more productive.
Eichhorn said his experience is what makes him the best candidate for secretary of state — he spent 15 years working with election law.
