Houston Chronicle reports Texas A&M is interested in joining the Southeastern Conference.

New York Times college sports writer Peter Thamel tweeted that a Big 12 athletic director confirmed Texas will stick with the Big 12, “the musical chairs will stop.”
Thamel later expanded on the interview with a full story on the Times’ website
12:15 p.m.
Chip Brown, writer for OrangeBloods.com, has tweeted new information about the Big 12 staying together — all teams are at the table, a TV deal announcement could be soon and the Pac 10 would escort other schools.
Brown reports the Big 12 will likely remain with 10 teams.
2:50 p.m.
A high-ranking official at a Big 12 school told the Austin American-Statesman that the odds of the Big 12 surviving are 70 percent.
3 p.m.
The Associated Press has reported that Texas A&M regent — and former Alabama football coach — Gene Stallings would prefer the Aggies stay in the Big 12 instead of changing allegiance to the Southeastern Conference.
4 p.m.
The Oklahoma State Board of Regents have scheduled a special meeting for 3 p.m. Wednesday to discuss the Cowboys’ future.
4:14 p.m.
The Associated Press is reporting that the Kansas Board of Regents has sent a letter to fellow Big 12 members trying to keep the Big 12 alive.

Despite an earlier report saying that Big 12 Commissioner Dan Beebe’s last-minute proposal to keep the conference together had “zero” chance of working, ESPN is now reporting Beebe’s plan is “gaining traction“with Texas President Will Powers.
4:52 p.m.
A source close to the Pac-10 expansion negotiations tells the Denver Post that Texas is “trying to pull a fast one” on the conference.
7:15 p.m.
Texas announces that it will remain in the Big 12, declining the Pac-10’s invitation and keeping the Big 12 alive.
Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M also announced that they will remain in the conference, turning the Big 12 into a 10-team league starting after the departure of Nebraska in 2011 and Colorado in 2012.
