Primaries: Rod Roberts
June 2, 2010
Budget cuts: “I will be as careful with your money as I am with my own,” Roberts said. He also said tax dollars represent the hard work of Iowans, and that hard-earned money should be spent wisely. He plans to cut taxes because “Iowans work hard, and they deserve to keep more of their paychecks.”
Roberts said he will be careful deciding where to invest government money. He finds it important to finish Highways 20 and 30. “If you build it, they will come,” he said.
Jobs and economic development: Roberts plans to bring new jobs and new businesses to Iowa. He will do this by limiting the amount of government involvement in the business world.
“The government cannot be all things to all people, and it cannot do all things for all people,” he said.
Roberts supports the free enterprise system, which he said is best for job creation and wealth production. He pledged to travel the country recruiting companies to come to Iowa, which will create jobs and enrich the business world.
Civil rights: Being pro-family, Roberts does not believe in gay and lesbian marriage. He plans to defend traditional marriage, which he defined as “a sacred union between man and woman, period.” He added that there is no room for negotiation in this definition.
Roberts also said he will defend the life of the unborn fetus, which he believes is still a human life.
