College of Design has appointed Marwan Ghandour to serve as its new associate dean for academic affairs.
Ghandour will replace Kate Schwennsen, who served as associate dean of the ISU College of Design for nine years and will become chairwoman of the Clemson University School of Architecture in August.
Ghandour will begin a 75 percent appointment as associate dean May 17, and he will continue to teach in the department of architecture.
“I’m very pleased that Professor Ghandour has accepted this important position in the College. In my nine months as dean, I have been privileged to witness the significant contributions he has made to the quality of architectural education at Iowa State, his strong commitment to diversity and his efforts to promote cross-disciplinary collaborations,” said Dean Luis Rico-Gutierrez in a press release.
Ghandour won the Dean’s Award for Extraordinary Performance for the College of Design in 2008.
Ghandour joined the ISU architecture faculty in 2003 and became director of graduate education for the department in 2007. He previously taught for 14 years at the American University of Beirut.
In 1992, he co-founded the Beirut-based architectural firm Bawader Architects, which specializes in the design of educational and institutional buildings.
In 1986, Ghandour received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the American University of Beirut and a Master of Science in architecture and building design from Columbia University in 1988.
