GSB to consider Committee on Lectures bill, fresh start for new GSB administration

Paige Godden —

The new Government of the Student Body Senate and executive branch will have their first meeting Wednesday after being sworn in for their duties Monday.

The executive branch will be finalized at the meeting.

GSB President Luke Roling, and Vice President Nate Dobbels have been interviewing several candidates for the executive cabinet.

Former Senator Tyler Albaugh is hoping to be approved by the senate as the new finance director.

If approved by the GSB Senate, Albaugh would be replacing Tom Danielson, who will graduate at the end of the year.

Former Senator Sagar Chawla is also vying for a spot on the executive board as director of diversity.

The rest of the executive cabinet will be affirmed as well.

The senate will choose a speaker and vice speaker of the senate Wednesday.

The former Speaker Michael Weber and Vice Speaker Jacob Wilson will both be returning to senate for the 2010-2011 year.

There is one bill that will be discussed during the meeting.

The bill is a Committee on Lectures carryover request.

“The Committee on Lectures offers an exceptional and valuable service to the ISU student body, and the Committee on Lectures brings lectures, political debates, academic forums, cultural events and entertainment to Iowa State,” according to the bill.

The bill requests the remaining balance of the committee’s budget be carried over to the organization’s budget for the following year.
