ISU GSB Senate to hold second vote for finance director seat
April 12, 2010
The Government of the Student Body Senate will vote for the second time on the upcoming academic year’s finance director at Wednesday’s meeting.
Last week, the senate failed to vote in former Senator Tyler Albaugh.
President Luke Roling and Vice President Nate Dobbels have now selected Anthony Maly to fill the position.
Roling will give his State of the Student Body Address, which the GSB Constitution requires him to deliver.
Memorial Union Associate Director Gail Ferlazzo is also scheduled to deliver a presentation.
The senate will also vote on who will fill the spots of the public relations committee chairperson and the university affairs committee chairperson.
Finances will be discussed when the senate decides whether or not to carry over funding for the Committee on Lectures.
The bill was written by Maly and Vice Speaker Michael Weber, and states that “the Committee on Lectures brings lectures, political debates, academic forums, cultural events and entertainment to Iowa State, and granting a carry over to the Committee on Lectures would allow them to save money on lectures without losing allocated funds.”
Two new bills will also be discussed.
The first is a bill written by Senator Brian Guillaume, which would allocate $2,150 from the capital projects account to the ISU Baseball Club to retain the baseball field.
The athletic department cut the baseball program in 2001, and doesn’t fund or maintain the field like they had done in previous years, according to the bill.
“The baseball club asked for funding last spring for turface for the baseball field, but the turface [GSB] put down is not enough to keep it in good condition so we need to put more on the field,” according to the bill.
The bill also asks that $300 of the total amount be put towards mower repair.
Speaker Halley Stille and Senator Teresa Tompkins wrote a bill requesting a carryover of funds for Ethos Magazine.
“Ethos Magazine offers a unique, informative and important service to the student body and community of Iowa State, and Ethos Magazine student workers have won multiple national awards for their coverage of current, relevant issues in the form of general interest feature articles, and Ethos Magazine’s budget was adjusted by Finance Committee for the 2011 fiscal year to reflect the carrying over of fiscal year 2010 funding,” according to the bill.
Stille wrote two more bills, as well. The first calls for the GSB to appoint a member to serve on the CyRide Board of Trustees, and the second requests to appoint a senator to the special student fee and tuition committee.
