The Freeman Alumni Committee is scaling back on the sixth annual Freeman Concert this year.

The concert is admission-free and has previously brought big names to the ISU campus including Radio Moscow, Plain White T’s, Motion City Soundtrack and Every Avenue.

This year the committee will ask for $6,000 from the Inter-Residence Hall Association at its meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Campanile Room of the Memorial Union.

According to IRHA Director of Finance and senior in marketing Andrea Biagioli, this request is considerably less than previous years.

The IRHA has given the Freeman Alumni Committee about $20,000 the past two years for the concert.

Biagioli said the committee normally asks the IRHA for funding much earlier in the year.

“$6,000 is about as much as we’d be able to give them just because of the time of the year that they’re coming to IRHA,” Biagioli said.

Christa Schroeder, senior in industrial technology and president of the Freeman Alumni Committee, said the reason for downsizing is a lack of volunteers.

“We didn’t have enough people to pull off the event,” Schroeder said.

Schroeder said the Freeman Alumni Committee plans to scale back this year only and then bring back the larger, more traditional concert next year.

This year’s concert will showcase local bands and free food will be provided.

Schroeder said the exact bands are unknown at this point until the committee determines the amount of funding it will receive.

The 2010 Freeman Concert is scheduled for April 24 at noon in the Richardson Court field.
