The Iowa State women’s track and field team traveled to Tempe, Arizona, to compete at the Sun Angel Classic.

Friday was a short day for the Cyclones as they only competed in two field events: hammer throw and the long jump.

For the hammer throw, sophomore Keiara Williams placed 18th with a toss of 152-2 46.38 m). In the long jump event, Iowa State sophomore Jalaiya Bartley finished 4th with a jump mark of 17-9 1/2 (5.42 m). The Cyclones’ other competitor, freshman Jessie Stindt, placed 16th at 16-8 1/2 (5.09 m).

Saturday was a much busier day for the Cyclones. The first event was the 400m dash. Freshman Sydney Milani placed ninth with a time of 56.16.

Iowa State again placed in the middle of the pack later in the 800m run with senior Erinn Stenman-Fahey finishing seventh 2:05.42. This was also a new personal record for Stenman-Fahey in the event.

The other 800m run featured four Cyclones running. Coming in ninth was junior Gwynne Wright with a time of 2:11.15. The other three cyclones finished 14th (Alexis Gourrier), 16th (Maggie Davis), and 18th (Laurel Hoogensen).

For the second weekend in a row, freshman Keira Christie-Galloway took home first in the 100m hurdles. She finished in school record time of 13.25, just one week after breaking it at Stanford with a 13.28. Behind her were teammates freshman Kaylyn Hall in 6th (13.84), freshman Katarina Vlahovic in 13th (14.24), and sophomore Emily Coghill in 27th (14.75).

In the 400m hurdles, senior Emma Whigham finished 17th with a time of 1:02.57. Right behind her in 18th place was freshman teammate Hall at 1:02.79.

The 4x100m relay ended up with a second place finish with a time of 46.59. A full two seconds behind first place winner Oregon. The freshman relay consisted of Christie-Galloway, Vlahovic, Erica Furbeck, and Milani. The team is now in 10th place in Iowa State history for the event. The other relay, 4x400m, did not place as high.

The first field event of the day was the triple jump. In sixth was Jalaiya Bartley with a mark of 40-2 (12.24m) and close behind her in 10th was teammate Stindt at 36-7 1/2 (11.16m). Shortly after in the long jump premier event, Furbeck had the mark of 18-7 (5.66m) to place eighth.

In the javelin throw, junior Bailey Righi threw for a mark of 137-4 (41.87m) to place 17th. Lastly in the field, teammate Williams threw for a new personal best with a heave of 49-5 1/2 or 15.07m. This throw awarded Williams with sixth place in the event.
